WHAT ARE JOURNEY GROUPS?
Journey Groups are small groups of eight to twelve people that meet in someone's home for fellowship, Bible study, and prayer. They are for adults of all ages, stages of life, and spiritual maturity.
WHAT GOES ON AT A GROUP MEETING?
Though each group differs in how they do things, many groups have a social time in the beginning, then transition to a time where they discuss questions from the sermon on Sunday and pray for each other. At the very beginning of the group, the whole group decides how much time they will spend on social, discussion, and prayer time (as well as the order in which they take place).
WHEN AND WHERE DO THE GROUPS MEET?
We encourage groups to meet weekly, because it's hard to build relationships only seeing each other a couple times a month. Groups choose to meet when and where they want: in homes, at restaurants, on WRC campus, evenings or mornings, weekdays or weekends. Group meetings are typically 1-2 hours in length.
IS CHILDCARE PROVIDED FOR EACH GROUP MEETING?
Some groups offer childcare, while others do not. You can request to be part of a group that offers childcare. Often the group members contribute to pay a babysitter or babysitters to watch the children during the group time.
HOW OFTEN DO JOURNEY GROUPS MEET?
Most groups meet weekly. Some groups meet for three weeks out of the month and either take off the fourth week or do a social activity together. Due to vacation schedules, groups consisting of married couples with children often do not meet during the summer.
HOW LONG DOES EACH GROUP MEETING LAST?
Each Journey Group picks the length of time they will meet. However, most groups meet for an hour and a half to two hours.
WHAT KINDS OF GROUPS DOES WRC OFFER?
The are groups comprised of married couples, women's groups comprised of women of all ages and stages of life (single, married, divorced, or widowed), men's groups comprised of men of all ages and stages of life (single, married, divorced, or widowed), and unmarried groups comprised of unmarried people in the same stage of life and area of town.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN A GROUP "ENDS" OR "MULTIPLIES"?
During the term of the group, the group leader will train an apprentice to be the leader of the next group. At the end of the group, there are multiple ways that a new group will be formed, the group will decide what is best. The most important value is that we are continuing to raise up new leaders to lead new groups to expand community.
WHAT DO GROUPS STUDY?
Most groups follow the sermon based notes and questions for their study time. However, some groups choose their own curriculum to study pre approved by the church.
HOW DO I JOIN A JOURNEY GROUP?
We desire to make joining a group as easy as possible, so we offer several options and allow you to pick how you would like to get connected. You DO NOT have to do all of these steps; rather they are options that you can choose that is best and easiest for you to get connected.
